B16 Stealth Bomber - New Parts

It has been a seriously long time since I posted on this blog, since I started my own company and working solely for myself it has become rather hard to break off from work and take some time to blog and work on my EG6. Recently I ordered a few more parts from the huge list which I had created before Christmas.

These are only a few small parts of the project but I really enjoy this part of a project the most, like a magpie collecting shiny objects, it is great to appreciate the engineering behind the racing parts from Japan. There is no compromise for quality when it comes to TODA, even the cam pulleys are finely engineered, precise and well finished coupled with functionality.

As for the Sparco racing gloves, they are a much needed piece of apparel for gripping the steering, if I'm going to be serious about racing the Civic, then I might as well look like I'm serious.

So the first part of my project is the wheels, I went for a set of Enkei RPF1's as they were a good price, look awesome and are super light yet strong.

The specs;

I'm looking forward to getting them fitted, I will be wrapping them in either Advan Neova AD08 or Yokohama A050 tires, something like 205/50/R15 on the front and 195/50/R15 on the rear.

B16 Stealth Bomber - Rendering

So now I've had a bit of time to think about how I want to tune the Civic for racing and hill climbing I've come up with this rendering based on what parts I'm going to purchase and how they will effect the overall style of the car.

I guess I'm going for a simple Black look hence why I'm calling it the B16 Stealth Bomber, similar to the B-2 Stealth Bomber plate from the USA.

I'll post up some pictures when the first batch of parts arrive from the USA and Japan, I'm pretty excited now that it's actually happening and moving forward.

New direction for the Civic

So now that it's coming up to Winter again, which is always a cold and depressing experience living in the UK, I've decided to take the Civic back off the road and dismantle most of the unnecessary parts and turn it into a track/spring car like I've always wanted to. This will require a fair amount of money and some good planning in terms of parts selection whilst complying with the MSA regulations in The Blue Book.

I'll keep this brief but I'm hoping to realise a dream with this project and actually take part in a competitive motor sport event.

The first port of call is to get the gearbox up to strength with a nice ORC 309 Clutch Kit

I'll add a more definitive list and update with my plans in the coming weeks and some pictures to go along with it so keep it a bit more interesting than just speculation.

Giving her some tlc

It has been about 4 months since I graced the Civic with some soap and water, the poor thing was looking a little rough. I took some before and after shots so you can see the huge difference a bit of elbow grease and time can make. Firstly I washed it with some Wash and Wax shampoo, leathered it off, then proceeded to use some Turtle Wax Safe Cut to bring back the shine of the paintwork, then finished of with some classic Turtle Wax polish. The results speak for themselves, this is all in preperation of my road trip to Frence next week. I'll be taking some kool shots on the road to France so keep looking on here for some European flavour.

Civic at Night (Stealth Mode)

I have to say I love having a Black car, especially at night, you can really get some moody shots and be creative. The only problem is trying to capture the detail in Black car without any extra lighting, but these are just experimental shots. Hope you like.

The Civic is also running very well at the moment since replacing the whole distributor unit after it failed on me after getting the car back out on the road for the first time in 8 months.

Honister Pass | The Lake District

So now that I got my Civic back on the road again I decided to head out to The Lake District and get back on some of the best and most scenic roads in England. Even the roads leading up to The Lakes are great, the A65 from Skipton is a fantastic high speed, smooth and winding road which offers great grip on the single carriage way sections, it then changes to a dual carriage way when it reaches the M6.

Once I'd reached The Lakes we grabbed some lunch, which consisted of a Gammon Steak and Chips from the John Peel pub, delicious. After lunch we hit up some of the tighter and rougher country roads, firstly was Kirkstone Pass (A592) which runs down to Ullswater, this is generally pretty smooth and has tighter corners with some high speed sections thrown in, also a very steep decent toward the valley bottom which is good fun on the brakes.

Another similar road to Kirkstone Pass is Honister Pass which starts from Keswick and runs through Borrowdale Valley and runs right to Cockermouth, this is a very winding and quite rough road but offers some really fantastic views and photographic opportunities, so it is definitley worth it. Below are a few of my favourite shots from Honister Pass, I didn't have enough time to shoot the other parts of the trip unfortunatley as I was enjoying driving so much.

The weather has been insanely cold for English standards over the last week, some places were tipping -20 Celsius, that is pretty damn cold for Yorkshire. Once the weather clears up around March time I will hopefully commence preparing the Civic for competitive racing.

Well it's still with me, not totally road going at the moment though due to having it declared SORN and no tax. I have some major plans for this car over the next year but first I have to put it on hold whilst I save up for my own place with a garage and driveway before progress can begin.

I seriously love time attack Civic EG6's. This one is without doubt wildest one around. The Front Wing is probably OTT but I'm sure it does serve a good purpose similar to Chris Rado's F-Wing. Soon I am hoping to turn my EG6 into some sort of semi-professional racing car over the next year.

This is great inspiration for all those who love the EG6 Civic.

Just practising some night time photography with my car and showing off my hid kits and led rear number plate lights. Due to the different coloured lights all around it was hard to get a good white balance, and again exposing a Black car is never easy at night.

After quite a long gap the EJ9 Silver Civic is now back in the family after a fairly lengthy absence. As you will see soon there has been a few changes since it was last featured on this blog, some good and some pretty shocking changes too but we'll get into them later.

For now I felt like the car needed a fresher look at the front end to keep with the clean look the Silver colour offers. Being on a fairly tight budget I opted to purchase some LED's similar the one's I recently installed in my rear number plate surround from Ultra LED's who supply a vast range of LED lighting solutions. I purchased a set of 9 LED Xenon white bulbs and indeed they look the business, the colour matches the HID 4300k colour perfectly, this will be the next purchase as the standard headlight bulbs really discolour the gorgeous white light being given off by the newly installed LED's.

Exhaust Problem

I heard a little blowing sound coming from the underneath near the centre of my car, which can only really mean one thing. So I got it up on the ramp and had a look over and confirmed a hole had appeared in the silencer on the mid-section of the Fujitsubo system.

Clearly its still a bit low for UK roads and speed bumps as you can see the scrape marks have worn away the thickness of the metal over time. I have the car booked in with Zorstec next Wednesday to make a up a whole new centre section pipe without the silencer this time, should sound pretty good I'm hoping!

Experiments | Nikon 70-300mm Lens

I borrowed a different lens from my work, as stated in the title its a 70-300mm Nikon lens. I've used this before at work but never really had much time to play around, my current lens is the 18-70mm Nikon but you can't get that same soft blur effect when you use the zoom quite extensively on this 300mm lens. Here are a few shots just experimenting with different angles etc.

So it was a sunny but windy Sunday afternoon this bank holiday so I decided I'd give the car a little inspection and check the oil and other fluids. In order to do this on a nice level surface on my driveway I would have to remove my front bumper as the Spoon lip would get ripped straight off due to the crazy steep driveway I am lucky to have. I checked all the levels and they were all ok, so no worries there. As you can see now that the bumper is off, I have mounted the second set of HID ballast boxes behind the bumper which are for the fog lights.

One thing I have been meaning to do is clean the exhaust tip, the inside of it mainly as it has loads of carbon build up and looks pretty nasty, so I got the trust wire brush out and a little bit of Autosol and off I went scrubbing away. The results speak for themselves really, great looking exhaust system the Fujitsubo Power Getter.

So here's my first attempt with my new Nikon D70 at a photoshoot. I called up my friend with it being a sunny day and me being pretty eager to test out the new toy. He agreed to come along for a nice drive and some photo's at some point along the way. I was completely shocked that even a standard GT-R is extremely fast, no wonder they are called Godzilla! After having a blast on some of the windy roads that England has to offer we had a bite to eat then decided on an industrial location for the shoot, below are the results. I welcome any comments and criticism as this is my first real shoot with the new camera, I think they turned out quite well, perhaps I should have set the ISO to 200 instead of 320 to reduce grain.

I really think the photo's are a vast improvement on the previous calibre, I look forward to hearing your opinions.

Well it was about time I purchased a proper camera, so being quite familiar with the Nikon D70 after using Jo's a few times in the past I decided to purchase a used one for myself. I picked up a beauty that was hardly used, came with all the original packaging even the ties for the cables were still on. Euro Trip 2010 | Part 3

Ok so here is my final blog from my European trip. Firstly a quick video of the road from the hotel which we stayed at in Austria, this road was awesome, if only I had more time to practice on it for a little while and film a full throttle run along it.

After watching and loving the Austrian Hillclimb event we were headed for the would famous Nürburgring via the also famous German Autobahn roads with unlimited speed sections along the way. This was the first time I had been able to not worry about the speed limit and just concentrate on people pulling out into my path whilst travelling at 113mph (Japanese limiter was still installed). Here is a quick video to give you an idea of the speed, it looks as though the cars in the slow lane are travelling at 50mph, when in reality they are travelling around 80-90mph.

About halfway to Nürburgring we stopped in a town called Koblenz which is only about 50km away from the actual circuit. After being away from home for about 4 days I was actually in the mood for a good old curry. So I had a quick search using the TomTom and I found a curry house right in the centre which sounded good, so it was time for a spicy Jalfreizi and Lamb Tikka for starters, yum. Here is a quick shot of the town square, very nice architecture throughout Europe in the city centre's.

Now for a kool story, whilst preparing myself to drive on the Nürburgring an EG3 Civic turned up from Belgium no less, I got talking to the owner and checked out what he had done to his car then vice versa. He asked for me to take him for a ride round the ring and vice versa, this was great fun as he was more experienced on the ring than myself so I got to see what speed to take the corners and which lines work the best for FF layout cars. So I'd like to say many thanks to Niels, and here is his Civic.

Ok so that was all the footage and photograph's we had time to capture at the Nürburgring, from there we headed for one of the larger cities in Germany, Cologne aka Köln in the local language. This was an awesome city, much like the others we had visited with its classic architecture and large city squares. This place had a huge main street with all the bars, restaurants and clubs along, it was a very buzzing place with some random graffiti.

Overall the trip was amazing and although we were quite pushed for time we managed to make the most of it I think. I've learnt that the next time I go it should be for much longer so we can absorb and explore more of the cities and countryside as most of this trip was driving, we roughly covered 2,500 miles in 5 days. The little Civic didn't miss a beat at all, I drove it hard on the Alpine roads, I thrashed it around the Nürburgring, smashed it along the Autobahn and it made it home in one piece. It is a testament to how well a 15 year old Japanese car can handle that kind of abuse day in day out.

Now after leaving Strasbourg and heading for the Swiss border this was going to be the most scenic part of the trip and also quite and experience. For some reason the people at the Swiss border took a dislike to my car, probably because of it being Black and heavily tinted in the rear. So they decided it would be fun to strip my entire car and go through all my bags, use the sniffer dog and search me and my friend. Obviously they found all the Cocaine and Canabis......

After travelling through the kool network of tunnels and flyovers in Switzerland we arrived at a place near St.Gallen and took a few snaps, then it was on to the real breath taking scenery and roads in the Alps.

The Alps

One of the main reasons for heading out to the Alps, in particular Austria was to see the European Hillclimb Championship, the Rechberg Rennen as its known locally. After meeting up with Chris,(he is the guy who runs the Hillclimb fans website) he showed us around the track and we got to meet some of the drivers which was really good, we even got an applause from the drivers for coming all the way from England to spectate as I don't think many British people have seen this particular event. There was such a diverse selection of cars there all unique in their looks and sound, some of the VW Golf Mk.1's were revving upto 11k and the top turbo tuned cars were equally as impressive.

Euro Trip 2010 | Part 1

Hey guys, well here is a little trip me my friend Fred and my Civic embarked on recently. As you might have seen in the previous posts I had outlined the route I was taking through various countries in Europe. This post will mainly images so I won't bore you with the details.

The first step was to clean the EG6 up as I wanted to look stush over in Europe and make a good impression, I used a Meguiars Clay Kit which I had lying around and then Meguiars deep shine polish to protect the paintwork after the clay. To be honest my paintwork came out looking like glass almost, which is pretty impressive for a 15 year old car.

So now that the car was all ready to roll it was time for the first leg of the journey to Dover ferry port then on to Strasbourg in Eastern France.

Part 2 is coming up soon which will include the Austria Hillclimb Event and the journey to the Nurburgring along the Autobahn's.

Euro Trip 2010

As mentioned in previous entries I have been planning a trip to Europe since the beginning of the year, I've always fancied driving through and around the Alps and also since becoming a fan of the Austrian Hillclimb events I have made it my mission to go and see one of these events. Below is the actual event I will be attending on the Sunday 25th April, I think this will definitely be the highlight of my trip purely because of the sound and speed of these machines, the top class cars are actually faster than the Group B rally cars from the 1980's, it will be some spectacle.

I will also be travelling right through the centre of the Alps, starting in Switzerland and ending up at the hillclimb event in Tulwitz, this will be some trek as its 1000km's from Strasbourg to Tulwitz going on the route I have highlighted in the Google Map below.

As you can see on the map above I have also booked 4 laps on the most famous proving grounds in Europe, the Nürburgring. I seriously can't wait to blast around this track in my EG6 as I've spent quite a lot of money installing various parts and changing the suspension especially for this. As there is a video ban on the track I have my best friend for support who will be track side to capture me as a I go past.

For now that is all I can think of writing as I'm am in the middle of packing for the trip, I will be heading down to Dover tomorrow evening to catch the early morning ferry to France. I will try and document the trip as well as possible with the help of my friend, expect a full feature and photo shoot of the EG6 in the Alps in a few weeks.

Stage 1.6 | Part 7

Part 7 now and this is getting to be a little more interesting. The next few problems that needed addressing was the lighting, as you know from previous blog entries I had bought some brand new headlights, after discovering that painting the inside of the headlights black is a very bad idea. Also I got around to fitting the 50W H4 HID's, man these things are bright, found a few different places to mount the ballasts, I have four of these now dotted around the car.

The Yokohama tires are installed now and they are so much better than the ditch finders I had fitted before. Specs on the tires are Yokohama Parada Spec-2 | 195/50/R15.

Now me being pretty anal about colours and how they have to be coordinated I decided to change the silicone air intake pipes from Blue to Black and to be honest it looks so much better.

As you can see from the pictures above I have got round to fitting the OEM fog lights and also the 35W HB3 HID's, these took a bit of customising to fit but so worth it in the end.

Now there is only a few things left to do which are only simple. I bought some Honda MTF as its about time to try this stuff out, everyone seems to rave how good it is and that it makes for a more smoother gear change. My rear wiper blade refill arrived too so I got that installed with the new powder coated wiper arms and a nice stainless captive nut.

These will pretty much complete the modifications that I needed to carry out.

Stage 1.6 | Part 6

Well as the time draws nearer to travelling around Europe for the first time I had to get the car prepared to a level which I was happy with. I knew the car had a few issues to resolve so I went about fixing the small things first. The VTEC solenoid gasket is a common problem that most B series engine owners face, so after reading through some forum posts then double checking using the Honda EPC I got the right part numbers for the gaskets. As you will see from the images below the engine block and the gearbox were a right mess from the leaking oil building up and becoming sludgy.

Next on the agenda was to replace the missing arch liner on the drivers side which I hadn't got round to doing since I bought the car from Japan. This was a bad idea really as when it was raining hard the indicator unit filled up with water and totally corroded the indicator bulb holder and the inside of the lens. So I replaced the arch liner and installed a new indicator and bulb holder. Now it was time to install the Spoon replica front splitter which I had shown in the previous post, this actually fit really well with the supplied brackets and screws, it didn't require any bonding which was quite pleasing. Also check out the newly installed APP Stainless Mesh Teflon brake lines and indicator unit.

I must apologies for the lack of quality in the photo's and no real progression is shown either, this is what happens when you don't have a camera of your own or much spare time.

I went to the local meet at Squires Cafe near the A1 which is a culmination gathering of JDM marques. I had the opportunity to ride in my good friends Stagea with the R34 GT-R Front end conversion installed by Masa Motorsports in Japan. It features some rather interesting parts other than the R34 conversion, 5 speed factory manual, R34 GT-S Neo RB25 Engine, HKS Coilovers and so on. When the weather improves and I have more time I will run a full feature on this vehicle with an accurate spec list. Another small update on some progress I'm making with the EG6. These are some little minor details and accents. The saying goes "The Devil is in the detail!". I decided to revert back to import sized number plates but the smallest legally possible, I think they look much better and keep the original import look and feel of the car.

Ok a little update on some more parts that I've been waiting to arrive and I managed to get a bit of work done in preperation for all the new parts that I will be installing in March time. Thankfully I now have a place to work inside without freezing my ass off on an evening. For the installation of the OEM fog lights I've had to cut away the plastic covering the holes required for them to fit, also the bumper was a problem in itself with the screws being completed rounded off, these were ground off and replaced with some stainless items for easy removal of the bumper in future.

As I mentioned in the last post there is going to be some pretty kool updates coming around February time for my birthday. The following modifications will be taking place for the lighting side of the EG6 and aesthetics too. The focus is mainly for night driving on the country roads, so high power lighting will be used so I can navigate the roads at high speed safely and confidently. I have also purchased brand new headlights as having painted headlights really does effect the amount of light they give off.

After signing up to the MCR VTEC forum recently being recommended to it by Gee it was time for their monthly meeting and drive that they organise. Gee had told me one of the previous one's he went to was awesome fun so I thought I'd come along and see what the deal was. Upon arriving there was a few decent Honda's kicking about, mainly EP3's with some light tuning, later in the afternoon a few more locals turned up in EG's and a fair few ATR's too all looking rather nice.

Part of the meet is also an organised drive along some local roads, a sort of follow the leader type deal, rather than just freezing in the car park stood around we actually get to witness and hear the roar of VTEC which I was very impressed with. Gee's White EK9 is rather quick since he installed the B18C engine from a DC2, you can find his blog here Project-Touge

Sweet, so I got my Sparco wheels refurbished and powder coated in Bronze finally. I'm very happy with the results, the finish is just awesome, the colour I chose wasn't an external colour so it had to be lacquered over to seal it in and to be honest it has a much deeper finish because of the lacquer now and almost a pearl effect at the same time. I would recommend powder coating to anyone considering a refresh on there old alloy wheels before purchasing new ones.

I also got round to completely removing the air-con system, this took a great deal of weight away from the front end considering the pump is fairly hefty. Not only is the pump heavy but the bracket it sits on with an extra stabilizing pulley and cushion. Total weight saved from this was | 12.3kg's.

Next to go was the rear seats and interior trim, this unsurprisingly lost quite a lot of weight from the EG, I removed the rear seats and brackets, rear lower parcel shelf, spare wheel, jack and tools. This all equated to around | 40kg's. Obviously this made quite a positive difference on the overall performance of the EG and I would recommend it to anyone who is seriously after improving the vehicle's characteristics without having to spend loads of cash on performance parts straight away.

After a little bit of thought I decided I never really liked the Denji Projector headlights to be honest. I set out to find a set of oem Civic headlights, bought some from a member off the CivicLife.net forum only to find them with broken brackets and totally filthy, but nonetheless I cleaned them up and gave them to my friend. He would then take them apart, clean them thoroughly and paint the top and bottom sections of the lights in a HT black paint to give them a more evil look.

Here are the results, the only thing I need to do now is paint the indicators in the same style.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with the result, I totally prefer the oem style headlights, next on the cards is a 50W HID kit for them as the standard bulbs are very poor after downgrading from HID's.

Decided I didn't like the size and shape of the import number plate I had on, I printed one off at work which is a standard Euro size plate and it looks much better, plus it gives better clearance for the radiator too which I prefer.

I also fitted a fire extinguisher too, not really sure why, I think it looks more like a race car having an extinguisher in the boot.

Its been ages since I actually gave my EG6 a bit of TLC. I thought I'd give it a bath and a quick detail polish so it could be proud of the paintwork once again. I wish I had the whole day to spend cleaning it because I know I could but the English weather does not permit a full day of cleaning without it raining halfway through or just after you've finished polishing. I managed to tidy up the engine and engine bay too, the VTEC solenoid has started to leak slightly so I got rid of the seepage and it looks much better now. We also gave Michelle's EJ9 a wash and a polish too so I got a couple of shots of them together for the first time. Be sure to check the progress of the EJ9 at http://project-ej9.blogspot.com/

Dirty EG6

Again, nothing much to update on but I have a few things in the pipeline which will be happening pretty soon. The Lenso BSX wheels should be arriving next week some point then all I need to do is order the Yokohama tires to go with them and I'll have a new set of shoes for the EG6.

Next is to generally tidy up the outside of the car, the small scratches, chips and poor surfaces will be all rectified at the body shop their the car will also receive a full machine polish to bring back out the unique paintwork. Lastly is a few minor and small things to update such as smaller front and rear number plates in 12" by 6" which will look a whole lot better than the huge one's I currently have fitted, another minor thing will be replacing the missing front inner arch lining and the broken interior wing mirror cover to tidy up the inside.

Here's how she looks at the moment, the reason she is looking so dirty and neglected is because I said that I wouldn't bother cleaning the car until I install my new wheels so obviously its been a while since I cleaned it!

BMC CDA Intake

So I finally got round to ordering the correct size hose for the air intake side of the BMC filter instead of using the rather poor plastic reducer pipe they supply you with. The problem before was that it would pop off under WOT which is obviously no good so I replaced it with an 80-70mm reducer which was a tight fit but with a bit of elbow grease and boiling hot water I convinced it to fit.

I went for a some dinner with my girlfriend only to find this pretty comical note left under my wiper. Even though the English is poor its still a compliment in my eyes.

Lenso BSX

Ok so after looking for something similar to the BBS LM wheel I discovered this particular wheel through a source at work, its a Lenso BSX wheel which I think looks almost as good as the BBS LM wheel I love so much. The fitment I will be going for is 16 x 7.5 Inch with 195/45/R16 Yokohama S-Drive tires. I'm hoping I can get some money together soon for the summer time so the car will look stush with those sexy wheels on.

HID Xenon Kit

After having a HID kit on my previous car it was about time I upgrade the frankly poor bulbs that came with the EG6 and also only having one bulb that worked too was a major factor in upgrading. I bought the kit from HID's Direct in Manchester online and the kit arrived the next day which was pleasing, the kit is H3 fitment and 8000k colour temperature.

Also having projector headlights already I know that the HID's would look awesome shining through the glass orb's at night and give the car a really modern feel and look whilst improving the vision at night. I enlisted the help of my girlfriend and we cracked on for about 3 hours planning it out and completely removing the headlight units to make life easier and making sure it was all fitted 100%. To be honest it wasn't that hard to fit them into the headlight units and finding a place for the ballast boxes wasn't a problem either, mounting them on the front cross member and running the cables around the lights worked perfectly. Once we had finished we tested them out and they worked first time without a hitch which was satisfying, all we had to do now was wait until it got dark.

After playing Gran Turismo 4 for many years and now owning an EG6 SiR it becomes a pretty useful tool for experimenting with suspension set-ups and wheel choices. After messing around for hours just deciding on the right wheels and the right suspension height and camber angle's I took it out for a photo shoot in the Photo Travel mode. I was round at one of the local tyre fitting places we use at work and I just noticed they'd built up a set of replica BBS LM wheels. LM's are one of the most undisputed classic style wheels ever which is why I'm tempted to put a set of these on my Civic. I'm just waiting to see if they make them in 16x7" 4x100 fitment before I go ahead. I feel the 15x6.5" with 55 profile tyres cause a fair bit of understeer which I don't really enjoy much and running some 45 profile tyres would hopefully resolve this.

Hey guys, it's been some time since I last made a post on here. Little has changed in the way of modifications but I've been out to a few meets recently to get some inspiration for my project. This time it was a small gathering of a few local owners of Toyota's and Honda's, the weather was cold but there was a fairly good turn out and some nice examples on show despite the freezing temperature's. Take a look at the pic's and see what you reckon, I'm still quite fond of the Toyota Starlet as its a great beginners tuning base car, the white EP82 is a great example.

Well, it's been a while now since I've posted on here. Christmas and New Year combined with winter mean very slow progress and very low funds for the project. I have however managed to get a few more things done that are worthy of posting up.

I recently bought a SRS de-cat pipe after trying with another bigger de-cat pipe that didn't fit I was hoping that this one would be the correct size. I came to realise that the smaller sensor in the original catalytic converter was only a small 14x1.25 thread size and I would have to mill out a bung and tap a thread into this to incorporate the original sensor rather than just leaving it hanging out. I got this done with the aid of my Uncle and Step Dad.

Once the pipe was installed it was straight out for a test drive. To my pleasure the noise of the car had gone from very good to amazing, once the revs went into the VTEC mode it came alive with the sound of a finely tuned race car. Performance has felt a slight bit better also, but I'm currently looking out for a Field SFC-VTEC computer so I can fine tune the fuel and VTEC timing on the car to make the most of the modifications I have installed so far. Once this is done I shall be off to for a dyno run and tweaking session at my local tuning shop so we can see the results of all my tuning so far. I also got round to getting the car under sealed too with it being winter and lots of salt being on the roads it was a definite must. The car still looks like brand new underneath as you'll see from some of the images.

Civic EG6 finally arrives!!

So finally it arrived last week at Liverpool docks ready for collection, it's taken absolutely ages for it to arrive but it was definitely worth the wait. Once I got to the docks and located the car I had a quick look around it and couldn't stop smiling, I was relived to see it on dry land again and all in one piece. It looked to be in great condition and was drivable straight away once we'd boosted the battery to get it started. I took it straight for an MOT and it passed without a problem which was a great relief, from then it would be waiting for the customs docs to arrive then a quick trip to DVLA in Leeds to hand in the docs to register the vehicle over here.

The next day was a lovely clear day so I spent all day cleaning her up and inspecting the car to see if I could find any hidden extras perhaps and to just see the general quality of the car. Overall the car has been very well cared for, with the interior being extremely clean and the bodywork being in fairly decent condition considering its 13 years old now. I managed to take a few pictures of the car once I'd polished and wiped it down but it began to rain so I only got chance to take half a dozen.

So now that its all cleaned up I went to the DVLA the following day to collect my docs for the registration number so I could get a set of plates ready and finally take it the garage to install some of my tuning parts and also get a feel for the car. I managed to install a few parts such as both Carbing lower arm bars and the SARD FPR kit, also the main thing I wanted to install was the BMC CDA intake kit. After I fitted the BMC intake kit I took it out for a test drive and it was a rather cold night, I couldn't believe the difference the kit made compared to the old crumbly Trust Airnix cone filter that was previously on, It responded instantly and pulled violently through the VTEC power band, definitely worth it in my opinion even if it is a little pricey. I'll upload some more pics of the tuning parts once I take them because the weather has been awful recently and I'm too much of a women to go outside, haha.

Well then, after the parts I ordered a few weeks back turned up I thought it'd be a good pass time to update the blog and get some new pictures up for you guys to see what I've got in store for the EG6. After purchasing the BMC CDA Intake kit I have a feeling that the Air/Fuel mixture won't be bang on, in fact it will be more than likely a lean mixture, so to balance this out I purchased a SARD FPR Kit to fine tune the fuelling on a basic level, at least for now. I used one of these kits on my EP82 Starlet and it was very accurate and reliable and simple to set up so it was an easy choice to buy another one. For the intake system I've decided to use some custom piping and silicone hoses rather than using the original silicone piping to possibly aid performance and also clean up the look of the engine bay.

Also not forgetting about the braking system, which was actually something I overlooked on my EP82 Starlet when I increased the power. I went and bought a set of APP Braided S/S Brake lines as something to start off with that will change the brake pedal feeling from something I can only describe as rather squishy to a crisp and firm pedal feel for more confident braking. When the car eventually arrives it will be going straight for its MOT and service so just to be safe I purchased as set of NGK Iridium spark plugs to be sure its firing perfectly on all 4 cylinders.

I bought a few more tuning parts for the EG6 last week and they've turned up and they're looking rather nice. I don't actually know if my EG6 has been de-catted already but I've gone ahead and bought an adjustable one with the 02 sensor hole so its all 100% correct. I also ordered some APP Braided S/S Teflon brake lines to give a more responsive pedal feel while braking, then seeing as I'll have a new induction system installed which and along with the de-cat I think the car will start to run slighty lean. So to counter this I've ordered a new SARD FPR kit in matt black with the pressure gauge and all the fittings I need for the B16A, hopefully this will level out the Air/Fuel mixture on a pretty basic tune.

Awesome, I've now finished building the EG6 model kit and I'm very pleased with how its turned out. To say I haven't built a model kit for about 4 years it looks half decent actually. I'll let you guys take a peek and see what you think, not the greatest pictures but the LCD screen on my camera is rather damaged :(.

Ok so I've purchased a few nice items prior to my Civic's arrival to keep my mind occupied until the very late landing date of November 11th. After hearing many many good things about the BMC CDA air intake system I thought it'd be best to try one out for myself, this seemed to be reasonably priced for the quality of the product. It became clear this is definitely a race spec intake system when you open the box, the carbon box itself is beautifully finished and comes with all the necessary fitments for easy installation. One thing I noticed while briefly reading over the instructions for fitment was that it says strictly for circuit use, not for road use! Strange but this should turn out very interesting if its insanely loud.

After owning a Carbing front lower arm bar on my Starlet EP82 and being most impressed with its ability to change the handling characteristics from such a inexpensive part I had to buy a full set for my EG6. At only £60 each per bar its well worth it and they are very simple to fit and make a noticeable difference.

I also purchased a rather simple device which is much needed when importing a JDM car into the UK, a speedo convertor which doubles up as a speed de-limiter, the device simply splices into the wiring loom on the top of the gearbox on the EG6 As many of you know that in Japan they have a 112mph top speed limit built into all there cars, even the R35 GT-R has this.

Excellent news, after recently mentioning to my girlfriend that I always wanted a model of my previous car the Toyota Starlet and failing miserably at tracking a model kit down, she went a found a model replica of the exact car I'm getting from a hobby kit company called Hasegawa, I was totally amazed as she pulled it out the box, I couldn't wait to get the thing built as I haven't built a model kit for absolutely ages. The model Is an excellent replica and its given me chance to try out some idea's on colours for when my EG6 arrives, plus it will take my mind off the wait for the real car to arrive. I've taken some pics of my progress so far so let me know what you guys think, I'm still quite a big geek so I'm quite happy to admit I still build model kits :)

So the Civic will be here within about 35days time which isn't long to get everything sorted out. I will be registering the car myself once it arrives and I've paid for the VAT and import duty and got the car to an MOT test station. I've decided that the car is going to need a new air intake system as the filter on the pictures looks like its seen better days. After a little bit of research and quite a lot of good things said about the CDA BMC Carbon intake system I decided to splash out on one of them. They are proven to give good gains over stock air intake systems but I'm always sceptical about these claims, we shall see on the dyno. Next on the cards is to stiffen up the chassis that little bit more, as this is my main focus of tuning to this car I've ordered 2 x Front and Rear lower arm bars made by Carbing which should make a substantial difference to the chassis rigidity. Lastly I ordered a copy of the Honda Civic Hyper-Rev magazine to get some more tuning ideas, these magazines are awesome for finding rare JDM parts such as body styling and tuning parts.

Well guys, the car is now officially mine, shipping arrangements are being organised as of now and hopefully the car will land in the UK within about 2 months time. I got some more pictures from the guy who's importing the vehicle for me with a few more detailed shots of the car. Hey guys,

I think I may have found my EG6 after some searching and looking at the auctions and traders in Japan. I've come across a couple of nice examples recently but this one caught my eye for some reason. Even though the car is the dark green colour it has an amazing spec list and the price is spot on too. Its only covered 100,000km's so thats not even scratched the surface on a Honda V-TEC engine so it should be good. I'm currently waiting for my importer to get back to me to see if the vehicle is still available, then if it is I shall make it mine. :)

Obviously before I start tuning an EG6 its always good to look at other examples to get idea's on how to tune it, aesthetically and mechanically. First I'm going to look at exterior styling ideas and examples of which I think are nice to look at, when it comes to exterior styling though I tend to go for more function over fashion if you understand, so the exterior bodyparts parts will need to add down force or make the car lighter.

Ok so here we go, its the start of a new blog from me, this will run alongside the project-ep82 blog which some of your may already have visited. As you can probably guess I've decided that my next car will be a Honda Civic EG6, i have always been fond of this car and after watching many many Hot Version video's I've concluded that i love VTEC engines purely for the noise and tuning capability proven by Spoon. Right now I'm just looking for a the right one to get imported over, I'm going to purchase one that already has modifications on purely so i can save some money and enjoy it straight away but i already have some kool plans for it once it arrives.
